We supplied and fitted this stunning black smoked oak tone antique parquet flooring for a builder that we do a lot of fit outs within the Dublin area. When it comes to doing these styled parquet floors, it is very important to be able to work with a reliable builder to get these styles of parquet flooring finished correctly. This project was a significant size and was in South Dublin. We have undertaken many projects in Dalkey, Killiney and the Glenageary areas of South Dublin as parquet flooring is very popular with many of the old-style house in these areas.

On this project the choice of parquet flooring was the antique black smoked oak parquet flooring. With this style of herringbone flooring, we order directly from our manufacturer, they take the normal style traditional herringbone flooring, and they destress it more and put each single block through a tumbling machine. This process gives of an amazing effect to the parquet flooring and looks like it was fitted many years ago. When you apply your colours and lacquer these styles of herringbone flooring or parquet flooring can really transform the look and the feel to your home or premises.

At the outset of the project, it is important to find out what type of layout the client wants for their parquet flooring, as there are several options for herringbone floor designs. The most popular parquet flooring is herringbone with a double border all around the perimeter of the wall areas. This herringbone flooring layout works well and gives off a nice shape to each room and looks well when your skirtings are fitted, and your parquet flooring is polished.

Alternatively, you can have a simpler parquet flooring design, with the herringbone flooring running directly to your walls, which is also very effective depending on the layout and design of your project.

On this project the client wanted all the parquet flooring finished with a double border around the perimeter. We fitted all the herringbone flooring and then after discussing the project timeline with the builder we decided it was best for the parquet flooring to be left unfinished until all kitchen units and bedroom units were fitted before we started the colouring of the herringbone flooring and the wax oil finish.

4 weeks later we proceeded with the sanding , colouring and the polishing of the parquet flooring. From the photos below, you can see the enriched colour tone coming through the herringbone flooring and because of the light and dark tones of the oak parquet flooring when the black smoked tone is applied, this can really lift and highlight many of the natural tones that come from parquet flooring.
